University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign African American Cultural Center
The new Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center provides a network of services and programs for students at the University of Illinois, as well as the surrounding Urbana-Champaign community. The new facility replaced a cherished house used by the African American Culture Center for nearly 50 years.
CDI prepared all site civil engineering, landscape design, and structural engineering contract bid documents, which included engineering drawings and specifications. Plan drawings contained the demolition plan and a site, utility, and grading plan detailing the location of the new building. Utility design included a new sanitary sewer building lateral, new building water services, minor site storm sewer and inlet reconfigurations, and a new water line. Structural services encompassed the concrete basement, structural steel framing, and masonry shear walls.
