Illinois Department of Transportation Traffic Counts
Terra Engineering teamed with CDI to perform data collection services for the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Traffic Counts Program. The project scope included the collection of 24-hour and 48-hour field traffic counts across IDOT Districts 6, 7, 8, and 9. The project required obtaining accurate machine traffic counts using magnetic lane counters, video counting devices, and road tube counters.
During this project, CDI collected approximately 1,200 24-hour and 50 48-hour sites for traffic count assessment. CDI also captured GPS coordinates and field pictures using field GIS software of each count site. Additionally, traffic count data was reviewed and processed prior to submittal to IDOT’s project manager. Project deliverables included processed traffic count data consisting of total/hourly count volumes and vehicle classifications for the count duration, count summary reports and associated files (videos, excel, etc.), as well as GIS shapefiles of count locations.
