Old Chain of Rocks Bridge – Load Rating and Repair Plans
CDI provided professional engineering services to Horner & Shifrin on the Old Chain of Rocks Truss Bridge over the Mississippi River. CDI assisted in taking field measurements and helped develop a load rating for the following structural elements: concrete slab, slab stringers, steel floor beams, and steel stringers. CDI also completed the inspection of all lower chord gusset plates, stay plates, and batten plates. Design and details for replacement of the deteriorated plates were identified and construction documents were completed.
The load rating process considered vehicular loads per the MoDOT Engineering Policy Guide (EPG) and pedestrian loads, where Horner & Shifrin and the owner provided further direction on loads. The load rating process also considered existing deteriorated conditions and rehabilitated conditions.
