Inflow and Infiltration Investigation

Highlights

Using sewer and manhole inspections, smoke testing, CCTV, dye flood testing and computer-modeling, CDI was able to identify sources of Inflow and Infiltration (I/I) to separate sewer systems, recommending methods for reducing sanitary sewer overflows by 25%.

Following initial field investigations, flow meter data and defect data analysis was conducted on individual study areas. Reports were generated and modeled using HYDRA software.

To date, the CDI team has completed the following investigations:

Field
. Smoke testing for 600 mi sanitary sewer
. Manhole inspections of 10,500 structures
. Dye tracings of 2,750 potential direct connection sources
. Identified 500,000 ft of pipe with CCTV inspection

Defects
. Identified19,500 sanitary sewer defects
. Identified 7,000 private source defects
. Identified 12,500 public source defects
